Funding your research

Our Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) and Landscape Awards offer you skills training and funding for your postgraduate research. Join one and you'll work alongside leading academics in your subject.

Our three partnerships are funded by UK Research Councils, or other bodies, and have various names such as Doctoral Training Centres, Centres for Doctoral Training, Doctoral Landscape Awards or Doctoral Training Partnerships. They all offer you the same benefit: gain the skills and knowledge needed to tackle key issues facing our world today.

Click on the links below to each of our Doctoral Training Partnerships and Landscape Awards - ARIES , AHRC Doctoral Landscape Awards and SENSS - to find out more information.

This Leverhulme Doctoral Training Programme is founded on world leading expertise in areas of environmental sustainability drawn across five core disciplines at the University – Life Sciences, Law, Sociology, Government and Business. Its purpose is to train the next generation of interdisciplinary doctoral scholars with skills and expertise to contribute to ‘sustainable transitions’ at local, national and international levels.

Other funding options

Besides the funding that our DTPs can provide, if you're thinking of starting a research degree at Essex, there are a range of other funding options and discounts which may be available to you, such as:

Visit our fees and funding page to learn more about how much it costs to study a research degree at Essex and explore our alternative sources of funding. We want to enable as many people as possible to undertake a postgraduate research degree, to help you pursue ground-breaking research and make a difference in the world.
