Postgraduate research funding opportunities
We know funding is a key part of your decision to pursue a PhD, MD (Res) or Professional Doctorate. Here are some options you can explore.
Doctoral Loan
The Doctoral Loan, from the UK government, supports PhD and professional doctorates with fees and living costs and is paid directly to you. Find out more about the Doctoral Loan .
Funded studentships
We periodically offer fully-funded PhD studentships, often in association with funding councils or industry. Most of these are for specific projects, although there are occasional funding opportunities for student-defined projects. When they're open for applications, you'll find details of these studentships on the following pages:

External scholarships
You may be able to take advantage of opportunities such as the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship for applicants from low- and middle-income countries. Most require you to hold an offer for a PhD before applying.
