Integrated Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

An Integrated PhD enables you to undertake a Masters-level year, designed to prepare you for your PhD, by enhancing your knowledge of a specific subject. You will then progress onto the PhD element of the degree, which will last between 3-4 years. As well as undertaking a large, independent research project throughout your studies, you will also be examined by viva.

Learn more about our Integrated PhDs on our dedicated page.

The Viva (short for viva voce) is an oral examination in which examiners (usually two) pose questions to the candidate about their thesis.
