About the project

About the Project This PhD addresses the urgent challenge of securing sustainable supplies of critical minerals, whose demand is rising rapidly due to the green transition and emerging technologies. Global geopolitical uncertainties and supply chain disruptions threaten the UK’s resource security and economic resilience. The research will investigate how domestic production and urban mining can be optimised and integrated within a circular economy framework to reduce dependence on external supply chains. The project will generate new knowledge on sustainable, resilient, and resource-efficient critical mineral systems, advancing understanding of how circular economy strategies can strengthen national resource security while supporting the UK’s net-zero ambitions. This project is expected to start in September 2027. Before you apply: We strongly recommend that you contact the supervisors for this project before you apply.
