About the Project “Small Features; Big Impact - Characterising the porous microstructure of battery electrodes.” How can we rigorously quantify and reduce uncertainty in microstructure-derived parameters used in electrode-scale battery models by linking state-of-the-art FIB-SEM characterisation and AI-driven image analysis to performance simulations? This project will require the development of deep expertise of electron microscopy, as well as various other materials characterisation techniques. You will also make use of foundation vision models and generative AI in collaboration with Imperial spin-out Polaron ( www.polaron.ai ). This PhD is open to home students only (UK nationals or those with settled status). Check if you are eligible here . Faraday Institution PhD researchers receive a UKRI stipend, which includes additional funding where applicable for London weighting. All researchers will also receive £2,000 per year to support training and consumables, alongside access to a bespoke Faraday Institution PhD Training Programme valued at approximately £5,000 per year. Recipients benefit from a wide range of development opportunities, including networking events, industry visits, mentorship, and internships, as well as high-quality training experiences designed to further develop their knowledge, skills, and career aspirations.
