About the Project Shocks like terrorism, armed conflict, or natural disasters, produce lingering effects whereby physical damage is intertwined with subjective experiences influencing how inhabitants sense and navigate their urban environments in the long term. While anecdotal evidence suggests an increased perceptivity in older adults towards anticipating and navigating shock, there is little geographical research around the experiences of shock and crisis specifically among ageing populations. This project will examine older adults’ embodied and felt experiences, senses, memories, and future imaginaries of living and navigating shocks in cities. This project is not associated with funding from the University of Birmingham. Applicants will need to obtain their own scholarship or other financial support to cover tuition fees and living costs.
