Functional redox-active bionanomaterials for electrochemical biosensing

About the Project Functional bionanomaterials have significant potential in the development of advanced bioelectronic systems for sensing and diagnostics. There are substantial potential applications of these emerging technologies. These include medical diagnostic/prognostic sensing systems capable of selective and sensitive detection of biomarkers associated with diseases, such as cancer and viruses. Such sensing systems show the promise of underpinning, rapid, cost-effective, point-of-care, diagnostics. This project will focus on the development of novel functionalized materials capable of providing robust and reliable sensing platforms for a range of targets. The project is interdisciplinary incorporating facets of inorganic, organic, physical, nano, and biological, chemistry. Dr Joshua Lehr has significant research experience in electrochemistry, functional interfaces, and the development of biosensors. The laboratories are equipped with significant electrochemistry and surface characterisation techniques. Applicants should have a strong background in chemistry or a related discipline. Ideally this would comprise of a high undergraduate grade (first or high second) or a masters degree in chemistry or biochemistry.
