About the project

About the Project We are looking for highly motivated and dedicated PhD candidates who are interested in exploring safeguarding in sport. As a candidate, you will have the opportunity to conduct a PhD project in the fields of Sports Coaching/Pedagogy and Safe Sport and contribute to the growing body of literature in these areas. This PhD project investigates the social dynamics between individuals from diverse backgrounds and the complex interplay between the individual and society within sporting contexts. The research examines micro-level relationships (such as those between coaches and athletes, peers, and parents and children) while situating them within broader macro-level frameworks. The project aims to provide a critical analysis of how potentially abusive practices and social interactions are shaped by, or exert an influence on, socio-cultural and organisational conditions, including sport-specific cultures, institutional structures and evolving societal values and norms. Ideal candidates for this project may have a background in Sport Coaching/Pedagogy, Sociology (of Sport), Sport Management or related fields, with experience in using qualitative research methods .
