About the project

About the Project Networked systems are ubiquitous in the modern world, for example, smart grids, financial systems, and industrial processes are prime examples of these. As these systems grow in size and complexity, classical control techniques cannot be easily applied because of computational bottlenecks or an absence of suitable prediction models. Distributed control approaches have been conceived to handle these challenges by splitting the original problem into a collection of smaller coupled problems. However, distributing a problem introduces additional challenges such as virtual uncertainties arising from information exchange. In this project, you will explore different facets of the following problems • Geometric interpretation of a distributed nonlinear controller in terms of controllability and reachability. • Characterisation of cooperation amongst elements of a network in terms of robustness and optimality. • Synthesis and design of nonlinear distributed controllers. • Data-driven control in a nonlinear setting. This project may also contain an application side where you can test your algorithms on power systems and energy markets. This is a 3.5 year scholarship. This funding opportunity is open to both home and international applicants. The successful candidate will receive financial support covering tuition fees at the domestic rate and a stipend for a duration of 3.5 years, irrespective of their residency status. It is important to note that international students will be responsible for paying the difference between home and international tuition fees.
